Taught postgraduate programmes study duration normally range from one year to two years. Students can usually complete a full-time master’s degree programme in one year. For details, please check the programme description of individual programmes.
Our programmes are delivered in English, Chinese or both of them depending on the medium of instruction of the courses offered under the programme concerned. You can consult the course code of a course for its medium of instruction.
A second character of the suffix of a course code indicates the medium of instruction: a suffix ‘C’ indicates that the medium of instruction is Chinese, a suffix 'E' indicates that the course is conducted in English; and a suffix ‘B’ (bilingual) denotes that the course is delivered in both English and Chinese.
The University adopts a credit-unit system. Each qualification stipulates a specific credit-unit requirement and each course carries a credit-unit value. As you pass courses prescribed under a qualification, you accumulate the credit-units toward that qualification.
Postgraduate qualification | Total credit-units required |
---|---|
Postgraduate Certificate | 9 |
Postgraduate Diploma | 18–24 |
Master’s Degree | 30–36 |
* Some qualifications may require a number of credit-units different from that indicated above. Please consult the Programme on offer page for details.

It is important to apply for student visa as early as possible to ensure the student visa/entry permit can be obtained in time for commencement of study at the University. The University will act as a sponsor for student visa application, which takes 10-12 weeks to process.
Notification of results of the applications will normally be available online in around 8 weeks provided that all application documents have been submitted in full, however, this timing may differ for different programmes especially those which require interview arrangement as interview arrangements will be processed in batches. MSCCESF programme will notify applicants of their admission results in March and in September, for Autumn term and Spring term admissions respectively. Applicants are reminded to check emails regularly for updates. Unsuccessful applicants will also be notified in writing.
