Introduction

The Bachelor of International Hospitality and Attractions Management with Honours is designed to provide quality education in theoretical and practical knowledge and skills in various aspects of hospitality and attractions management for those who wish to pursue or further advance their careers at managerial level in the hospitality industry.

The programme helps students acquire knowledge and skills up to professional level strengthening their knowledge of general management in hotel, attractions and tourism areas, nurturing and providing various opportunities to sharpen their creative thinking, problem-solving techniques, and other generic skills. It develops in students sound professional knowledge in various disciplines of management studies and managerial thinking, which are deemed necessary for their intellectual and social well-being and, more importantly, for excelling in a supervisory position in the hospitality industry.

Career Prospects

Graduates can find work in conference, hotel, attractions and event management in the hospitality field. They can also apply their skills in careers such as customer relations, sales and business development, facilities management and food service management within the recreation, travel and tourism and food and beverage sectors.

Further Studies

Opportunities are available for the graduates of this programme to pursue postgraduate studies in Hong Kong and abroad. Students may continue to study for a hospitality-related master’s degree, a Master of Business Administration or other master’s degrees in business-related areas.

General Structure

During the four years of study, students will need to complete 160 credits of courses, comprising 85 credits of core courses, 50 credits prescribed concentration courses; 5 credits business elective and 20 credits from Purpose-Designed General Education Courses from fields of study which are different from those of their programmes.

In the era of globalization, business opportunities are inevitably increasing around the world. The School is committed to preparing students for the challenges in the international business environment. In view of this, a Global Immersion Programme will be held to provide students with opportunities to study and travel abroad, be exposed to the language of global business, engage with global issues and eventually become empowered global citizens. This programme is compulsory.

Major

There are 85 credits of core courses and 50 credits of prescribed concentration courses in the major area of study. The core courses in the first two years of study cover a wide variety of topics in business communication, business statistics, business law, accounting, economic system, finance, marketing, human resource management, information management, management accounting and operations management. These are essential to a professional manager in the hospitality industry.

In the third and fourth years of study, students will study courses in hospitality management, attractions management and international business. In addition, students will study a course in business issues and ethics, management policy and strategies and services marketing, a course in work-based learning project and one business elective course.

Being able to work effectively with foreigners and foreign organisations has become a very important contributor to career success in the internationalised economy. The Undergraduate Global Immersion Programme (UG-GIP) is designed to support B&A students in developing their potential in the internationalised environment. UG-GIP aims to instill in students a deeper understanding of a foreign culture and its society and environment, and expose students to a broader overview and understanding of international business.

For senior year entry students, UG-GIP comprises two non-credit bearing courses: BUS B083F (Year 3)*, and BUS B084F (Year 4). These courses are designed to enhance students’ intercultural awareness and communication skills and help students to develop a global mindset. Details can be found here.
