Introduction

With numerous construction projects going on in Hong Kong, the demand of the construction industry is forecasted to increase with the growth of the amount and the complexity of the projects. This programme offers a structured curriculum to prepare the students with the required knowledge for entering or advancing in the construction management and quantity surveying industries.

The programme aims to instill students’ investigative skills, including estimating building cost, construction contract administration, measurement of construction materials, execution and interpretation of construction management and quantity surveying work in the construction industry.

Career Prospects

Career Prospects

Graduates will acquire a broad knowledge of the concepts, techniques and technologies related to the construction discipline. They should be able to:

Anticipate the advancement of the construction industry and the built environment such as Building Information Modelling (BIM).
Establish a broad understanding of building technologies and practical skills in construction training, industrial placement and projects.
Demonstrate the competencies required for the future professional qualifications in Construction Management or Surveying.

Graduates are capable to find employment with professional training opportunities in both private and public sectors in the construction industry. Typical positions include Construction Management Trainees, Assistant Quantity Surveyors, Construction Cost Estimators, Construction Contract Administrators, etc.

Further Studies

Graduates will be qualified for further study in civil engineering, environmental engineering, project management, or related areas in any tertiary institutions in Hong Kong and elsewhere.

The postgraduate studies include but not limited to Civil Infrastructural Engineering and Management, Construction Management, Civil and Architectural Engineering, Environmental Management and Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Structural Engineering, and Transportation Engineering.

General Structure

Students admitted to the programme through Year-1 Entry are required to successfully complete at least 120 credit-units of which at least 24 credit-units should be taken at 3000-level and another 24 credit-units at 4000-level.
