Introduction

The Bachelor of Business Administration with Honours in Financial Technology and Innovation is designed to provide students with quality education in theoretical and practical knowledge and skills to apply technological innovations to a changing business environment, especially financial services industry, so as to equip them to take up positions of responsibility, leadership and consultancy in financial services industry.

A unique feature of this and other BBA programmes is the pioneering undergraduate global immersion programmes (UG-GIP), which is designed to support B&A students in developing their potential in the internationalized environment. UG-GIP aims to instill in students a deeper understanding of a foreign culture and its society and environment, and expose students to a broader overview and understanding of international business.

Global Academy of Finance and Management (GAFM)

Graduates of the BBA (Hons) in Financial Technology and Innovation will receive the Chartered Certified FinTech Professional (ChFP) certification of GAFM upon nomination by OUHK. The possession of a ChFP shows his/her professional competence to employers and customers in the areas of financial technology as well as his/her understanding of how technology shapes the future of finance.

Institute of Financial Technologist of Asia (IFTA)

Graduates of the BBA (Hons) in Financial Technology and Innovation may claim exemptions of up to a maximum of six modules at Level 1 of the Certificate in Finance and Technology (CFT) Program. The Certificate in Finance and Technology (CFT) is a unique pioneering qualification designed by expert industry practitioners to give technology professionals a better knowledge and skills of the business they support.

General Structure

During the four years of study, students will need to complete 160 credits of courses, comprising 85 credits of core courses, 45 credits of Financial Technology and Innovation concentration core courses, 10 credits of Financial Technology and Innovation concentration elective courses, and 20 credits of Purpose-Designed General Education Courses from fields of study which are different from those of their programmes.

In the era of globalization, business opportunities are inevitably increasing around the world. The School is committed to preparing students for the challenges in the international business environment. In view of this, a Global Immersion Programme will be held to provide students with opportunities to study and travel abroad, be exposed to the language of global business, engage with global issues and eventually become empowered global citizens. This programme is compulsory.

Being able to work effectively with foreigners and foreign organisations has become a very important contributor to career success in the internationalised economy. The Undergraduate Global Immersion Programme (UG-GIP) is designed to support B&A students in developing their potential in the internationalised environment. UG-GIP aims to instill in students a deeper understanding of a foreign culture and its society and environment, and expose students to a broader overview and understanding of international business.

For senior year entry students, UG-GIP comprises two non-credit bearing courses: BUS B083F (Year 3)*, and BUS B084F (Year 4). These courses are designed to enhance students’ intercultural awareness and communication skills and help students to develop a global mindset. Details can be found here.

*BUS B083F includes a study tour. Students are responsible for incidental expenses such as airfare and accommodation.
